Young Lover is probably my least favorite song she's ever done. It's pretty annoying.

I think it just goes to show the record's strength and range and power. We all find different sounds/themes to latch onto. But the bottom line is that all of these songs are fucking great. It's a truly epic record.

Oh yeah definitely, it's a pretty dynamic and varied record and I get why we'd gravitate into different aspects of it

Hang On Me is such a sexy way to start an album.

So Annie hinted on Instagram about the return of her band.

I realized that I forgot to share my thoughts & experience about her appearance in Portland a few weeks back.

The show was really awesome, our seats were about 12 rows back & directly in front of where she began the show stage right. Loved how she did 2 from the first 2 albums. Never thought I'd get to hear Marry Me & Now Now live again. It was all pretty trippy. The visual aesthetic of the first part (including Tuck & Patti's set) was very Lynchian to me. Cruel was obviously a highlight, and the 3 from the S/T album were fucking monstrous. Probably the highlight of the whole show, really. Was pleasantly surprised that I like the new arrangements of those sans band.

The Masseduction set came off really well, the album lent itself to the backing track situation. Although I didn't how some of the backing track vocals blended with the live singing. Sometimes it was hard to tell if it was her or the track. Los Ageless is clearly the best song, and Happy Birthday Johnny was so incredibly powerful & great live. Killed me. I was also super impressed & happy to hear her hit the high note at the end of Young Lover. Although my wife thought maybe it was backing track assisted & she didn't fully get there. I definitely disagree. The videos were mostly good, and she gave us a little human banter moment before New York in which she praised Sleater-Kinney.

Overall it was fantastic, but I still prefer her with a band. A really cool experiment for her, and certainly not like anything I've ever seen which I appreciate.

Probably the coolest part of the whole thing was that we got wind at 10am that day that she was gonna do a free radio session at a great small venue in NE Portland. Went down about 11:15, waited in line with about 300 others til noon & then got to be 10 feet from the small stage to watch her do 5 songs acoustic. Holy shit was it incredible. More on that later. Thx for reading, St. V heads. She's still one of the best to do it, hasn't let me down yet!

"Don't it beat a slow dance to death..."

That's the first time I've actually understood that lyric.

Kevin Davis should change this thread title to not be so album specific.
