The other day I put on Sing 2 for my daughters to watch, then when they were done went looking for a video of Bono to show the kids who voiced the Lion - ended up going down a rabbit-hole of consuming probably way too much stuff from the Zoo TV era (Fuck they were increadible during this period) - then figured that since I hadn't listened to anything post Pop other than hearing a few singles that I should listen to the rest of their albums. I have to say that I was most pleasantly surprised with the run of everything up to 'Songs of .........' these two are alright, but nowhere near the levels reached on the albums that proceeded them

Nice - I found myself going down a rabbit hole of Zoo TV era stuff too recently after OD'ing on the post-Pop eras last year.
If you haven't already, make sure you check out this project. I put the bonus disc on the other day and was surprised what a pleasant cohesive listen it is (if I do say so myself )

FAN-MADE PROJECT - NOT FOR SALE

Over recent years, U2 fans have debated in various online forums what a possible third instalment of U2's 'Best of' series might look like. The consensus seems to be that given the release of only two albums in each of the last two decades, it makes sense to combine them. This fan-made compilation represents my take on what such a release might consist of. As with the 1980-1990 and 1990-2000 compilations, this one was not limited to songs released as singles (remember 'Gone' and 'UTEOTW' were on 1990-2000 - two of my all-time favourite songs). So along with my personal opinion of their best singles from this period, I have included what I consider to be essential album tracks. I have also decided to include the single versions of 'Elevation' and 'Walk On' (both released in 2001) as they were curiously not even included on the 'Best of 1990-2000' DVD set (which included bonus videos for all the other singles not included on the CD set), so I believe it's likely the band intended to hold them over for the next instalment in the 'Best of' series.
I also thought it would be fun to include a bonus disc containing key b-sides, rarities, and remixes etc., especially given the high quality of many of these songs from this period. As per the 1990-2000 2CD set, this also gives a chance to acknowledge some of the singles that were left off the main disc.
The best lossless sources have been used for each track, with the exception of 'Ordinary Love (Paul Epworth Version)', which was only ever released via Soundcloud (128k MP3), and 'The Troubles', taken from the 2017 'Apple Digital Master' (256k M4A), which fixed the frequency loss issue identified in all 2014 releases: https://www.u2songs.com/news/tech_troub ... tunes_re_r
I have agonised over the sequencing for this set for months and come up with something that I think works really well, with each song made stronger by the transition from the song preceding it. Hope you enjoy this listen - it left me feeling like the 21st Century has actually been a really strong period for the band after all!
As always, please share this freely in its FLAC form (keep mp3 versions for your own use) and support the band by purchasing their official releases (if you are reading this I'm sure you already have ).
Enjoy!

Glad you like! I tried to make it a realistic attempt at what the band might put out if they had continued the 'Best of' series. Many late career gems in here - unfortunately like most bands their age they get rarer with each album...

It's not like they got bad over time (as I had wrongly assumed) - it's more that they can't quite reach the same highs. Having said that - Achtung Baby/Zooropa/Zoo TV Tour is an insainly high bar that they set

U2 have a new album on the way.
Reworkings of previous songs.
I’m up for it.
Songs of surrender.
Bono was promoting his book, which by the way, seems to be really cool i gave it to my girl as a present and she is hooked, and said that that third album was ditched and wanted to do a rock and roll type of album, whatever that means for U2 at this point.
