I'm sorry I missed all this U2 discussion late last year
After barely listening to U2 for years (I never even bothered with Songs of Experience), I stumbled upon a copy of their 'Experience and Innocence Live In Berlin 2018' fan-club DVD and thoroughly enjoyed it (it's very Achtung heavy ). Now I just can't get enough and have been going through the deepest reaches of their formidable catalogue once again.
Anyhoo, with 2020 having drawn to a close, I thought it might be fun to think about what a 'U2 Best of 2000-2020' disc might look like, to continue the series they started at the turn of the century (I opted against doing separate discs for each decade, given two albums doth not a best of make).
Before I reveal my much sweated over tracklist (with artwork and FLAC download of course ), I thought I'd see y'all would put on such a disc?
But first a couple of ground rules.
1. The disc is not limited to songs released as singles (remember 'Gone' and 'UTEOTW' were on 1990-2000 - two of my all-time favourite songs by anyone )
2. 'Beautiful Day' and 'Stuck In A Moment...' were included on the 'Best of 1990-2000', so they are out of contention. HOWEVER - 'Elevation' and 'Walk On' (released in 2001) were passed over, and were curiously not included on the 'Best of 1990-2000' DVD set (which included bonus videos for all the other singles not included on the CD set, including 'Ground Beneath Her Feet'), so methinks they intended to hold them over for the third installment in the 'Best of' series. So I say they're fair game
Ok, go!
Cool!
My choices would be : Magnificent (It has a beat like a speeding train) In A Little While Sometimes you can't make it on your own (acoustic version from the new anniversary box is sweet) Walk On (version from the 9/11 tribute CD is on my regular rotation still. GREAT VERSION) Song for Someone (combine with There Is A Light before or after. I did this on my playlist and they go together nicely) Invisible and Ordinary Love (OK songs, but not on an album and they play those live)
and I know it may not fit the criteria but I have Edge Love is Blindness solo acoustic fan club download from 2005 that came with from the Ground Up and it's fantastic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12d-5Azr6PI
I also have Fan Club only CDs of: Live Songs of Innocence + Experience u2 Live from the Ground Up u2360 Edge's picks Live form U2360
If you want live versions.
Thanks for sharing your ideas folks
I'm close to finalising this thing but I'm thinking I'll do a bonus disc to go with it (like the 1980-1990 and 1990-2000 sets) containing b-sides, rarities, remixes etc.
Any must haves?

"Fast Cars" is great, though that probably belongs on the actual best-of disc.
Oddly, the best "non-album" track that came out between 2000 and 2020 is probably "Electrical Storm" (2002), but that came out as the "new" track on the "Best of 1990-2000" album, which would make it an odd candidate for this project.

Its a difficult era for rarities...The acoustic sessions from Songs of innocence are good. There also tons of remixes from both albums....Invisible is a good single, i hate that Green Day song...Window In The Sky is not bad....

i'm a sucker for no line and i like winter very much, beautiful track.
As mentioned above fast cars is great too, and the gotham remix of hmtmkmkm is unusually good for a u2 remix, as was the one of the fly from gavin friday, they used both in the intermissions of the last tour.

‘Fast Cars’ is a lock for the bonus disc, though I’m going to use the Jacknife Lee Mix which is just as good and less widely available than the original which is on most versions of HTDAAB.
I love ‘Electrical Storm’ too but yes, not a candidate.
The version of ‘Winter’ from Linear is great - really should have been on the album.
‘Invisible’ belongs on the main disc IMO.
Have you guys heard the version of ‘Mercy’ from the HTDAAB sessions? I think it’s better than the later live version they released, but obviously the sound quality isn’t quite up to scratch...

what about Neon Lights?
Book Of Your Heart is also a must.
shit, how could i forget book of your heat, possibly the best song of the whole songs of project. And it wouldn't be totally out of place on achtung baby either.

Ok, here's the B-Sides disc as it currently stands (still playing around with sequencing):
Ordinary Love (Paul Epworth Remix) Winter (Linear Version) Fast Cars (Jacknife Lee Mix) Vertigo (Trent Reznor Remix) Are You Gonna Wait Forever? Book Of Your Heart Elevation (Influx Mix) The Crystal Ballroom Summer Of Love (Robin Schulz Remix) Soon The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone) (Busker version) Get On Your Boots (Fish Out Of Water Mix) Sleep Like A Baby Tonight (Alternative Perspective Mix) Neon Lights (Kraftwerk cover) What's Going On (Spotify Single, Marvin Gaye cover) Get It On (Bang A Gong) (with Elton John, T-Rex cover) Every Breaking Wave (Radio Mix) Love Is Bigger Than Anything In Its Way (Beck Remix)
I’ve added Lucifer’s Hands to the bonus disc - I don’t love the chorus but that ‘Return Of The Stingray Guitar’ riff is awesome.
I can’t decide whether Ordinary Love should be on the main disc or the bonus disc. It’s grown on me lately, and there’s a strong argument it deserves a spot on the ‘best of’ (it won a Golden Globe didn’t it?). I think the Paul Epworth mix is the best version, unfortunately it was only ever released as a 128k mp3 on Soundcloud....

Ordinary Love should be on there. It may go down as Bono's last really good vocal outing. The drop in his voice that I've heard on tour on Songs of Innocence, Joshua Tree and Songs of Experience is pretty startling. He can't make a song fly all on his own any more.

I forgot about the acoustic songs from song of Innocence. It's annoying that they are all one track !

Assuming you are going to include Elevation, please oh please, use the Tomb Raider Mix. The album version is extremely inferior.
