i'm not a fan of the historic Nico album ... i just can't get past her voice, and find her incredibly overrated. but i really dig the following three albums in a row:

Transformer is the classic. I really like Berlin, New York and Magic & Loss. The best Velvet Underground album is their self-titled one, but it's also their quietest and folkiest.

I am woefully under-informed on Lou Reed. I've heard these albums front-to-back:
The Velvet Underground & Nico (the banana album) Metal Machine Music Coney Island Baby
Coney Island Baby is the only one that I play with any sort of regularity. What else should I check out?
What a weird Lou Reed combo.
Transformer is one of those albums that feels played out but when you play it you remember how loaded it really is. I'll never forget my first time with that album.
Street Hassle is a personal favorite of mine. Your Spacemen 3 tendencies will dig that one.
as for VU, the entire catalog is worth it. Has an artist had a run of four more distinct yet consistently good records?
