A lot. And I don't know - you really should have. It's so good. Illmatic was the one that really popped my rap cherry.

Great! "Undun" -- the follow-up to "How I Got Over" -- is great too, in the same vein. Most of their albums are well worth your time but those are my two favorites.

But don't let any of it cut into your "Illmatic" time. :)

I will definitely delve deeper into The Roots. They're right up my alley.

Listening to Illmatic again. 'The World is Yours' is fantastic. The album has a weird nostalgic effect on me.

Sorry LV, you are wrong on this one. I engineered on a LOT of rap sessions, and have had this conversation more times than I care to remember. I am going to take the word of many, many black rappers and beatmakers over some (presumably) white Pearl Jam fan: rap is lyrical rhyming, hip hop is a cultural movement.

Hip-hop is also music, dude. Not all hip-hop has vocals.

Punk rock is both a musical style and also a culture, right? Same thing here.

I agree? I never said hip-hop wasn't a culture.

No, but you did refute T2B's original statement, and now you're saying the exact same thing...Unless I'm missing something?

Yeah, because they're really isn't a separation. t2b said that rap was music and hip-hop was culture, but hip-hop is also music, and rap doesn't cover all forms of hip-hop (the music) since it implies rapping (vocals).
