Weirdly, that's Thom Yorke's favorite EC album, too.

It's really interesting to me how different Blood & Chocolate is to the other album he released that same year (1986).

(btw Pete, if I was going to pick an EC song for the Mynabirds to cover, this would be it)

"Blood and Chocolate" is probably EC's most unabashedly dirty album--maybe the only record he made with the Attractions where his own big, distorted guitar chords are the predominant sound over the rhythm section. In fact I always felt like the Attractions' playing on this record was a little rougher around the edges than usual--whether by design or not, it has always worked for me as a sort of metaphor for the internal chaos going on within the band at the time. An upper-tier EC record for me too (if not quite as upper tier as "King of America").

Just passing through so no time to play that video, but I'll give that other record a listen soon since they were released so close together.

I go hot and cold on Elvis. I own 4 or so albums and I've seen him live twice. The catalogue is a bit daunting when you aren't too familiar with it (now I know how people feel about Dylan's catalogue).

The Very Best of EC&TA
Extreme Honey
Painted From Memory
When I Was Cool

I've got a copy of The Roots colab but I haven't heard it yet. Currently getting reacquainted with PFM. Damn it's good and that show was jaw dropping.

About to download King of America. Should I go with the original release or the 2007 Hip-O Records release?

The 2005 Rhino reissue if it's available. I don't really know how any of the mastering jobs stack up against each other but the bonus material on the Rhino edition is stellar.

Extreme Honey was the first EC album (well, compilation) I really loved. I listened to that so many times.

Always liked Tokyo Storm Warning! And Blood & Chocolate too for that matter...

Did you listen to King of America?

You'll like "I'll Wear it Proudly" and "Sleep of the Just".

Great performance of an underrated song.
