I don't even hate Pitchfork -- I actually find a few great albums from them each year! I just like poking fun at them because they take themselves way too seriously for the quality of content they deliver.

The problem is that so many people look to them for some semblance of validation of their own opinions on music. They think it’s a personal affront if Pitchfolk gives a review that doesn’t match their view of an album. Everything that Pitchfork is today is based on the stock people put in it.

Yup. Love em or hate em, they still carry a tremendous cultural cachet, which also can result in situations like these

lol, that's a good point made in that tweet. I've always detected a strong air of superiority with Pitchfork -- in their writing, their GUI, their festival lineups, they way they turn their nose up at many popular artists, and seem to go great pains to fawn over little-known artists (who often deliver underwhelming results, IMO)...

But the biggest evidence I've seen of their superiority complex is their complete and ongoing lack of discourse with their readership: No LTE section, no message board, no open comments. In opting to disallow ANY opinion that may counter their editorial content, they've positioned themselves as being the arbiters of musical taste, when both the quality of their writing, and their subjective ratings, very often don't back that up.

But I have no doubt that all the people who work there LOVE music, and believe they are making their best effort to share new music with others. I just think their whole vibe is really goofy, and their ubiquity is highly suspect when there is much better writing happen at The Quietus, CoS, WaPo (in pop music critic Christopher Richards), etc.

In this respect, they were just ahead of the curve; very few sites do comment sections anymore

Having my common sense mistaken for a superiority complex is a price I'd be willing to pay if it meant not opening up my website to the kind of toxic, nutjob ranting posted over the last few pages here.

I agree 100% with bidding good riddance to online comment sections. What a failed experiment.

The funniest part about this for me is that I think James Blake and the The National are both WAY more boring than Taylor Swift. Like, I’d give her career output to date a 6/10, and those other guys a 2/10. Not even gonna bother trying this new one.

I haven't tried to rank them yet but I really like illicit affairs.

i should've mentioned that any song i think should've been cut is more of a reflection of the album being about 2-3 songs too long and the specific songs being (to me at least) the easiest to eliminate. they're not bad songs by any means.
