There are two types of band fusions: when one band "absorbs" several members of another band - Fleetwood Mac absorbing the duo Buckingham Nicks to start a new chapter in their career - The Melvins incorporating Big Business into their own lineup for a while - Sixpence None the Richer's singer and lead guitarist both joining 10,000 Maniacs
and when members of two different bands join to create a new band altogether - RATM + Chris Cornell = Audioslave, obviously - Hollywood Rose and L.A. Guns merging to become Guns N' Roses - The singer, drummer, and keyboardist from Little Georgie and the Cracker People joining forces with the guitarist and bassist from Spoon Squad to form Crackerspoon - The Small Faces merging with The Jeff Beck Group to create Faces
I think the former is a little more interesting but I can't think of many examples.
The latter has some overlap with the concept of a "supergroup" but is not exactly the same; when I think of supergroup I think of notable members from various projects assembling together, instead of just two bands doing the fusion dance

The new wave duo The Buggles joined the prog rock group Yes after Rick Wakeman left. They recorded an album together that sounds like a combination of Yes and The Buggles

Lots of bands form from other bands but they have to be sufficiently famous to count I think. Like Led Zeppelin doesn't count Plant and Bonzo's band wasn't big enough.

It doesn't quite fit, but all i can think of is the drummer from Harvey Danger forming Sleepy Kitty with his wife.. i only know about them because i met them several times whilst somewhat involved in the St. Louis music seen back in the 2010s..

That feels more supergroupy though, which i know you touched on, but not as interesting as a conversation? There are tons of one album spinoffs from super groups.
