Andrew Bird Trio announces the release of Sunday Morning Put-On, a new album out May 24th on Loma Vista Recordings. Featuring Bird’s own unique takes on classic songs by Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Lerner & Loewe, Rodgers & Hart and more, the record finds him re-immersed in a lifelong love of mid-century, small group jazz and the Great American Songbook. Accompanied by a masterful rhythm section – Ted Poor on drums, Alan Hampton on bass.

Jebediah are from my hometown and were pretty big in Aus in the 90s and aughts. They are older now (aren't we all) and have just released a new album "Oiks".

I heard the album opener "Bad for You" on my drive into work this morning and bugger me if it hasn't been stuck in my head all day so far.

The new Whores album came out yesterday and it crushes. Between that and the new Pissed Jeans, 2024 is off to a great noisy start.

That debut album by 'English teacher' is getting rave reviews. To my ears it's a good record but nothing like the reviews would say.

i figure someone here will be into this. it's by Cindy Lee, the alter-ego of Patrick Flegel, who used to be in a band called Women...kinda noise rock. Maybe someone here has heard of them...our Canadian friends? This album is called Diamond Jubilee, and it's only available by going here or via Youtube (below), except on YT it's not broken up into tracks. It's about 2 hours long, and I'm only a handful of songs in, but so far it's good. Very 60s sound to it. You can download the wav files (32 songs) for a donation, or listen for free like I am, I guess. You can read more about it here - yes, I still read pitchfork.

Yessss, I adore Public Strain by Women, probably as good as post punk in the 10s ever got to me, and after that I've followed the Cindy Lee project with admiration and curiosity for a while. I love their persona, the performatic aspect of all of their music and the way they write songs that sound like lost brill building classics found and played through a malfunctioning record player, and while I appreciate the harsh noise present in their other records, I think pop songs is what they excel the most at (the music video of "I dont want to fall in love again" off their previous album is hypnotizing, and what really sold me into them as such a special act), and this release feels like the pinnacle of that.

What a great amount of outstanding songs, feels like listening to an old staples radio station but where the signal is barely catching on, it's insane to me that tracks like "Kingdom Come" or "All I Want Is You" hadn't existed for ages. And whatever you say about pitchfork (GQfork rly these days) it makes me happy that they gave their highest score in four years to such a niche and adventurous project when they simply seem to embrace consensus these days. This is my personal favorite release of the year, I think it's really special.

This album's really continuing to bowl me over. I just keep putting it on and getting lost in it at random points throughout the day.

New Bill Frisell double album, Orchestras, is pretty great so far. Really enjoying it.

2 distinct live performances:

Disc 1 with his trio and the 60-piece Brussels Philharmonic.
Disc 2 is his trio will an 11-piece jazz orchestra.

Disc 1 is very beautiful and lyrical, but, it's also a bit buttoned up for me, at times (so far).
Disc 2 is much more exploratory.

Makes sense given the composition of each ensemble.
