Wait, I was talking about the second album on a thread just the other day. I put the stream up there. Did we start this one without looking for the other one?

I didn't think anything from the new album stood out, sadly.

I really love that opening track. Just listened to it. And that Oh Henry thing is pretty sweet, too. Yeah, I'm a sucker for their schtick. I think I'm gonna buy that vinyl bundle on their website.
One of the most enjoyable things about the first album was the harmonising, and the new one has much less of the guy's voice to undercut the sweetness of the woman's.

Their second album is owning me right now. I finally got it Thursday and I can't stop spinning it. What a fantastic record. I might like it more (initially at least) than the first record.

The "a side" of this album is really great and IMHO better than first album. I am shocked how much better they sound with a bit of fuzzy guitar added in, but I guess that's what happens when you get the right producer on board.
After having a ton of time with both, yes, I think I can safely say that I like the second album more. Pound for pound. There are things I like more about the debut. But The One That Got Away, I Had Me A Girl, Eaves Drop, Devil's Backbone and Oh Henry put this thing above. I like all of those more than any single song on Barton Hallow.

The first six on the second album are an absolute knock-out, the back half feels like stuff jumbled together to get to 12 tracks. I can't help but think if the inter-band conflict wasn't so bad, this could have been a classic record in the genre.

Totally agree. Except that I think Oh Henry is one of the strongest tracks on the thing, and it's a on the second half. Perhaps it's the exception that proves the rule.
