What are your favourite songs, dad?

For Tomorrow
Elimination Dances
Let's Tip the Creator
Graft Vs. Host
We Know the Rats

I know they've pretty much kept the same formula, but I don't care. This one reminds me of Under Color, which is probably my favorite album of theirs.

Good picks - Dances, Creator and Rats are all excellent.

Surprised you didn't name Rain Garden, The Author and Polacrilex Kid, coz they're top shelf too.

The whole thing is very good. Those are the immediate standouts for me.

I need to work off your lists. I haven’t listened to many albums but the ones I have so far have not been particularly great. Last year there was an overwhelming amount of great music.

Of today’s new releases, I’ve only listened to King Krule, which I liked, and will spend more time with.

At some point, I want to check out:

Jenny Lewis - Joy’all
Youth Lagoon - Heaven is a Junkyard
Feeble Little Horse - Girl with Fish

The Krule record is nice. The Feeble Little Horse one was not for me. Jenny Lewis always disappoints imho.

Protomartyr, Feist and Yo La Tengo are the cream of the crop so far this year.

I prefer the trio I named to anything else that has been released so far this year.

Yeah I respected that one but it doesn't get into the 2023 life raft over any of the three I mentioned.

Age of Pleasure is very clearly Janelle Monáe's worst album but that's really a testament to how good everything else is, because it's still extremely enjoyable. It's obviously a groovy, sensuous summer album, and her singing is better than ever even if the songwriting itself seems to take a backseat to the vibe.

The Arlo Parks album is really great. It leans much more into the synth-pop sound than I was anticipating, thought it'd be more of a neo-soul thing. But yeah, really lovely
