The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
I can't stand Rock City for some reason, but its probably just me.
The chorus is annoying, "I'm going back to rooooooock city..." but that's the only line I dislike the delivery of.

I like this a lot even though I'm pretty sure it is the equivalent of a Britney Spears album (if that is your thing) - no real substance but pleasing to the ears. The lyrics are pretty awful but whatever.
I hear a lot of Pearl Jam on this...good PJ I mean.
I think Ed is trying to compete with these guys on the tracks we've heard from LB. A little more produced, more focus on melody and hooks. That's fine with me.
And I agree with what someone else said earlier - if you like this KoL record, you're a hypocrite for not liking the new PJ. It's cut from the same cloth. Ed's just less bent on banging chicks.

I love both bands.
I'm 39...been into Pearl Jam before they were even Pearl Jam (IE: Mother Love Bone). I don't get PJ fans not liking Avocado, Backspacer, or the newest stuff. For me, they dropped the ball with Riot Act and (to a lesser extent) Binaural...still decent albums, but not great.

To be fair, although I hear PJ trying more of this, I think KoL have taken a lot more time to perfect it. No one really writes a fun vocal hook like Kings of Leon.
"I take one in my temple. I take one for you-oo-oo."
vs.
"I wanna fight to get it back again. Yeah yeah yeah yeah."
No contest really.

Right but I'm more comparing the melodies on the tracks we've heard from LB (i.e. Getaway).

Ed isn't competing with them in the least. Just not his style. He wouldn't even compete with U2 when Bono begged him too. I think Eddie is a big reason Kings of Leon didn't continue on the Sex On Fire path. I honestly think Caleb was embarrassed because he knew Eddie thought it was garbage.
"Sex on Fire" was a fuck-ton better than anything this band has written since Backspacer.

Oh, and also, I don't think Ed has any problem at all competing with Bono these days. I don't know how long ago it was that he was shunning bono, but he's almost definitely changed his mind on that.

Sex On Fire is arguably the best rock song since the 90s. If EV doesn't like it, that's his problem.
