I mean, it’s not like he was going anywhere when he was the drummer for fleet foxes.

The j tillman thing was tired too.

he had to become FJM to make it.

I’m not trying to make converts here, but what is it that you guys hate/despise about him?

Completely derivative, unoriginal music slathered in irony and skepticism. Right up there with Amanda Palmer as one of the most annoying musicians whose creative output reflects a derelict soul. He should be peddling hair loss supplements on Instagram.

Trag that post is the most I've agreed with you in like 5 years

I also just think, on a basic level, his tunes are bad. His persona is annoying but I like music by a lot of annoying people. I just think in his case there's nothing there.

Amanda Palmer is a really good comparison

I admit to listening to and enjoying the first FJM album when it came out, but it has aged as bad as any album I can think of and I think the bolded part here is why. All the tongue-in-cheek, "ok haha I am an asshole" schtick that drapes that album is exhausted and exhausting, and its attempts at cultural/historical commentary are ham-fisted, corny, and self-important ("Bored in the USA" come on dude). Hair loss supplement salesman, part-time attendant at an NFT art gallery, podcaster, etc.

On the other hand I am very much looking forward to the double Big Thief album that's set to come out in February.

I have never listened to a Father John Misty song, at least intentionally. If one has ever come on a Spotify mix, I didn't notice. The backlash over the years has kept me away.

The thing is, I really really don't want to. This is one of those things where I'm comfortable being close-minded. Too many people whose music tastes line up with mine have painted a picture. If it's wrong and I'm missing out, so be it. Lots of music out there.
