I have nothing to add, except for that the thread title reminded me of the recording artist 'Cry Wank'. He once said in an interview that his mother chooses to refer to him as 'Tear Jerk', which is adorable and hilarious.

I’m also fuzzy on what qualifies. Does it have to be recorded at home, or is it just more of a sound? Raincoats and Violent Femmes would fit the vibe, but they were recorded in studios…

i think drugdealer qualifies, as does raincoats and vf. bedroom pop is kind of misleading, honestly. i just used that term because a lot of bandcamp--where alex g sort of blossomed--is made up of artists recording everything in their home, and they're providing all the instrumentation, etc...very DIY, no studio.
