Silverchair's Neon Ballroom was indeed a wee bit special. When a grunge band employs a string section you know shit's about to get real. I would don the plugchain necklace for those guys.
Whole bunch of bands in here with one particularly well-known single from an otherwise successful career, i.e. not in any respect "one hit wonders" by my understanding of the term.
There are probably a couple of different definitions of what a one-hit-wonder is. It is often otherwise successful artists, that have one huge hit. Their second most famous song might be played here and there, and might be loved by their fans, but it was nowhere near the top of the charts. This kind of artist could have a highly successful career. Like I posted earlier, it's funny to me that a-ha is often considered a one hit wonder in the US, as they have had a fantastic career.
Another definition, is of a mostly failed artist. One that hit lightning in a bottle with one song, but otherwise did nothing of note.
I think most posters on this Pearl Jam board, have probably known about and listened to Blind Melon since the early 90s. But in nearly every one-hit-wonder list online they are included. Doesn't mean they were a poor band, just that they fit the first definition, with only one song charting very high (in the US).
