I don't know much of their stuff, but what I've heard is alright
Just because you're horny doesn't mean you can join our Turnstile fanclub. That's not how it works.
Gave this band a try after this little exchange. I fucking love this stuff. I've listened to GLOW ON probably 4x through in the last two days.
Yeah it's a super consistent record. Banger after banger.
Welcome, Leatherhead.
I've been enjoying this one from an almost intellectual place since first posting about it 2-3 weeks back, but today it really hit me in the gut...
Last several days have been very stressful for garden variety reasons: Full schedules, kid and wife got sick, then i got sick, then yesterday we had a huge snow storm and lost power for a few hours as we were trying to get out the door; plus it's a busy time of year for me at work, with all sorts of big deadlines coming up for my students...
I've felt very numb lately, just stuffing all the domestic stress down until I can deal with it later, just trying to get the family fed and get out the door on time. But man, this morning after I dropped my kid off at daycare, I had an extra long drive to work due to a construction detour. Blasted this thing and got nearly to the end. Just a deeply moving record, full of raw passion and intense moods.
And the ear candy is nice, too. Love the little electronic elements, the guitar effects on the more laid-back songs, etc. I also love that the snare is tuned down, so it doesn't sound like a 90s band.
I do wish that the bass tone wasn't so tubby, but whatever flaws I may perceive are obliterated by the singer, whose voice is one of the most compelling I've heard in a really long time.
Love this record. Don't think it'll top Floating Points/Pharoach Saunders for my favorite of the year, but it could very likely take the #2 spot.
