Can def hear Stones love of LZ in that riff. Friggin rocks!!
It’s kind of amazing to hear this one and Eddie’s new one…not to mention Jeff’s latest stuff without wondering why these riffs/songs can’t find their way to PJ.
Makes me wonder about the interpersonal dynamics within PJ (not to mention each member’s tastes/preferences) in addition to what it must be like for each member to work with other artists/musicians.
Would this song have sounded the same if PJ worked on it?
Prolly not, but can’t help but think of these things when I hear their side stuff (esp when it’s this good!!).

So strange to see Mason at a mic without a guitar just being a lead singer and shit
Yeah, he almost looks uncomfortable there....

That really makes me wonder too. I think the band could benefit from another powerstruggle...
Also I think that those funky Stone grooves don't work aswell with Matt. Matt is a beast on drums who is also very very versatile. But he's not really funky. Dave A and Jack where both grooy and funky drummers. Even Dave K had some of it. Matt not soo much...
I think what we are learning is that Eddie should pull back a bit on some of the sonic elements of the Pearl Jam albums. Work more with the instrumentation given to him much in the way Ten was done. It won’t produce another Ten, but clearly Jeff and Stone are both in creative high moments right now and Eddie is kind of circling the wagons in rehashing the same sounds. How he has a whole new band to tool around with and still is making quasi-pop Pearl Jammy sounding stuff is beyond me but for a lack of versatility. Pearl Jam still needs another shot in the arm album creatively and Jeff and Stone can deliver that. Let them.
Try sequencing Long Way and Brother the Cloud into Backspacer and The Haves onto Lightning Bolt. I bet it works.
Im a big fan of Gigaton and it feels Jeff took the wheel there but at the same time i really like Ed´s output in that album.
I agree that Ed is not interested on experimenting on his solo career at all, it seems the new album is going to the rock and pop route we are used to, which is not a bad thing i my book, because i loved the new single and Long Way.
