I don't think it's true that no one likes them. Suburban white dads fucking love to get drunk and sing "Hotel California" on their pool decks in the hopes that maybe their wives will have sex with them again.

In 1994, when they reunited for the Hell Freezes Over tour, my friends and I decided to get tickets. We went to the local Ticketbastard outlet and asked for 3 - the sales person said "that will be 248.00". Our jaws dropped. I'd been to lots of concerts at that point, the biggest band being Pink Floyd and hadn't paid more than $40 for a ticket. Needless to say, we passed. I read somewhere that this tour more than any other was the start of the big acts overcharging for concert tickets.
I finally saw them in 2004 and we were so bored, we left about halfway through. Don't remember how much I paid.
I saw them....I don't know when. Before 2002, I guess. I had great seats, and was bored to shit. Met a lot of really stoned business-class midlifes after the show, though.
The Hell Freezes Over tour was a lot of fun. I didn't find that show boring at all. But I saw them again in... 02? I think it was 02. That show bored the shit out of me. And ended pretty much whatever level of fandom I had for them.
But I still give their Desperado album a spin from time to time. And Hotel California (the album) is pretty great for what it is.

well, actually there are people who like them.
We just don't know those people.
I liken it to how Bush got voted into office
Ha!
I think they are one of those bands that are all about assembling a 'product' rather than necessarily creating 'art'. Very much the type of band where each note is played on exactly the same place every show type of scene.

Joe Walsh is pretty great. I love his James Gang stuff. I guess he was only on 2 or 3 Eagles albums, but his James Gang and early solo stuff is better than pretty much all Eagles songs.
