I'm also in on this idea. Been going back to all the VH albums after Eddie's death (minus VH3). Count me among those who found Balance more entertaining than I remembered. Aftershock rips, and I like Seventh Seal as an opener. There's some goofy shit here, but it's VH so it feels weird to be upset about it.

I listened to A Different Kind of Truth this morning on the way to work. It’s a bit better than I remembered it. The new tunes are actually quite good and showed a promising direction in Ed’s songwriting. I wonder how influential Wolf was on that. The reworked older material was acceptable with Bullethead sounding the least dated. It was quite different from what Ed was coming up with at the time and it’s hard to believe it never made it on an album before this one. Of course there are some clunkers with Tattoo and the Ice Cream Man “homage” being the worst tunes on the album. One surprise then and now was how Dave actually became more of a singer between VH albums. He hit notes on a couple of tunes he never would’ve even attempted back in the 80s. Now, he’s still not a GREAT singer, but he is better.
Doing a VH dive is always fun and I always seem to reach for them around this time of year. Pretty, sunny days, warm weather and Van Halen blasting with the windows down. That’s the stuff.

I just listened to 6 of the tunes. It’s not bad. I’m actually quite surprised he didn’t throw any of Ed’s signatures in anywhere. I’ll probably end up buying it.
I would like to see/hear something with Sammy, Mike and Alex at some point. Not all on the same tune, just each on a different one. He’s got a pretty good voice that would be interesting to hear mixed in with Sam and Mike.

I just learned of the only non-album b-side VH ever released. It’s called Crossing Over. And it’s pretty fucking good. I’ll be listening to this one a lot.

I'll be honest...as much as i've tried a few times over the years i've never really been able to get into Van Halen beyond the well known DLR era songs.
