Why are you letting that stop you?

Have you at least bought tickets yet? They went on sale a week and a half ago.

Pfffft. I don't buy tickets when they go onsale. I'm not a chump. I'll the Box Office when I'm ready to see it and get tickets directly from them.

Do you have connections with the other box office people?

Not really "connections" per se. But most BOs don't have public numbers. You can't just call them up and buy tickets. You have to buy through Telecharge or Ticketmaster if you're not there in person. And those have fees attached. I can call over and buy and avoid fees without being there in person. Sometimes shows will hook me up if they can (if it's a slow night or if they need bodies because of press or if the show isn't selling well). But they only do that if I'm going. I can't usually get that deal for friends if I'm not in attendance. And it's rare when I can get it for myself, honestly.

Bought myself a ticket in the front row balcony 8-) Took a look at the inside of the theater, looks like there's not a bad seat in the house.

I read some reviews, seems they are near unanimous that Driver is a force that no one else can really keep up with. It's just fine with me...I'm 100% going to this show to see him perform in person, I really think he's one of the best actors of our time. Getting to see him play a coked out narcissist sounds from a few feet away sounds just fine to me, anything beyond that is gravy.

Thanks Joe!

Oh also I saw a couple local productions this summer:

Stop Kiss -- I loved this. Funny to think the gal who wrote this and won a bunch of awards in the mid-90s is now working for one of the CSI shows.

A Doll's House Part 2 -- I liked this much more than I thought I would. Was never crazy about the original (but then I hadn't visited it since high school). This was much more entertaining.

We’re also gonna see Misty Copeland in Swan Lake AND go to the Comedy Cellar. I’ll leave NYC with approximately 300% more culture than I currently have

Tuesday night, my wife and I saw the new revival of "Burn This" on Broadway. The show stars Keri Russell and Adam Driver. It's an outstanding production of an outstanding play -- I play I've loved since high school.

Adam Driver is a force of nature in this thing. I haven't missed acting since I gave it up. But this... watching him perform, watching him perform, seeing his craft and script work, it was so captivating and inspirational, that I desperately missed acting again. With all my heart, I missed it. I wanted to be up there sparring with him SO badly. The guy is such a blistering talent.

Keri was a bit flat, unfortunately. She had great moments but often felt out of her depth and out of touch with her body on stage -- which was especially wonky because she's playing a dancer/choreographer. She had made some interesting physical choices in the way she stood and used her legs in the quieter moments, but otherwise it seemed she was hyper self-conscious. I wanted more from her. And she had a hard time keeping up with Driver. He was so generous and never felt like he was chewing scenery, but his presence overwhelmed, in good way.

Still, an amazing show. I highly recommend for anyone in NYC the next couple of months.

Just saw this. I totally agree with your thoughts on Driver and Russell. Driver was Brando-level good; or take your pick of superlatives, he surpassed them all. Like a master class in performing.

Russell was pretty bad; I could see her gears working throughout.

David Uranowitz was terrific, I’d love to see him in something else. David Furr was fine with the material he was given...

I think we disagree fairly strongly on the strength of the material though. The core story is solid. But much of the dialogue — particularly Russell’s and Furr’s — often felt banal and navel gazey; I imagine it felt fresher when it was a new piece, but it was tough to care about much of their musings on film, writers, money, New York, etc...

But still, none of that matters. Driver’s performance was more than worth the price of admission. It really was the sort of performance that made me question my life, like “wow imagine if I had devoted myself to acting from a young age, *maybe* I’d be able to do something like what Driver is doing with seeming effortlessness.”

Imagine watching The Black Keys do a show and then Jimi Hendrix joins in for a number. This play was basically that.

Black Keys: “Here are some songs that present the idea of rock music...”

Hendrix: “lol ‘the idea of rock music’ “ [melts faces, reveals the Black Keys for the rote performers they are]

So glad you saw it, trag. So glad someone else here saw that performance. It's hard to describe how great Driver is in the show. You just have to see and experience it.
