Hideaway is the best so far.

I had pretty low expectations but have been pleasantly surprised after the first 3 listens - some new sounds mixed in with elements from most other stages of their career (e.g. the end of Evil Has Landed has a real self-titled vibe). I don't think the production is as awful as some are making out, but it's definitely different for Queens.

Early standouts are Feet Don't Fail Me and The Evil Has Landed, but that could be because I heard them a couple of times before the rest.

Will give it some more time before I dare rank it against the rest of the catalogue. Already better than Era though ;)

I think Era is better than this one by a fair margin. It's only 9 songs and it doesn't have any true bangers (Feet and Landed come close). If you are going to put out a new record this short you better have the songs to pull it off.

I've had this for 3 weeks now. After a week I thought it was pretty average then it started to take root in my head. Now with the better sounding release I enjoy most if not all of it. My gripes are that most of the moments I like have been done better before in their career. Also, if you took Ocean, Tail, Smooth Sailing, FFriends and IAMissing, this is the logical extension. With a lot of TRex thrown in.

Best Track is UnReborn Again.

Domestic Animals I really disliked at first but now I enjoy it. Leg of Lamb nod is nice.

The vocals of Fortress still annoy me. Too sweet a melody and delivery. I'd love to hear both an instrumental version and Lanegan having a crack at it.

And the cymbals are fucking weak. I like a meaty crash.

It's 48 minutes long. That doesn't strike me as unusually short

That's because most of the tracks are unmemorable and plod along. I found myself waiting for them to end rather than enjoying them.

Production sounds great to me. Its big and loud without being too abrasive.

Nope. This sounds much closer to EV or PLDM. This doesn't have the boring self-seriousness of LC.

Can't please everyone, but I find myself really enjoying this record. Fortress is my early favorite.

Yeah, Fortress is really good. I don't get the vocals being "too sweet." It's a sweet song. Why shouldn't he sing it as such?

I'm sort of getting into Fortress and Unreborn Again, those are the weirdest ones on here for sure.

Right? Josh has always had that side to his vocals. Makes perfect sense to me too.

A few times through.

Initial impressions:

I'm enjoying this. The sexiness is there. But, for better or worse, this album sounds like an extension of Clockwork. Some of the songs of similar ilk were done better on Clockwork. Like others, I do wish the drums were more prominent. They have such a kickass drummer - just seems under utilized here. That being said, I think these songs would be a lot of fun to hear live.

Guys I don't think there's enough Georgia Satellites talk in this thread.
