Any example of anything that shouldn't have made it to the final released product-- a missed note in a solo, an autotune glitch, a production error. Or even just a "happy accident" sort of thing. Share it here.

I'll start it off with this famous example at 3:18, where Tom Morello's Tone Bender picks up a Korean radio station

Tom Morello wrote:
I first got turned on to Tone Benders when we were working on Evil Empire with producer Brendan O'Brien, who also produced our new album. I found that when I turned on the pedal but didn't play anything, I picked up a crystal-clear signal from a Korean radio station.

In earlier mixes of "Sleep Now in the Fire," that radio thing was featured more prominently. We had the radio signal running through the entire song. It was a little annoying, so we decided just to stick it at the very end. I always like to say that there are no samples on any of our records, and this is a good example. That radio signal is no sample - it was played!"

Awesome thread idea. I tend to love these.

I've got R.E.M. on the brain, so the first thing that comes to mind is Michael Stipe cracking up on the "Dr. Seuss" line in "The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite." It's one of my go-to feel-good songs, and I think that little fuck up makes it that much more of a joy to listen to.

In a similar vein: Bob Dylan high off his ass having to restart "Bob Dylan's 115th Dream" because the band forgets to come in with him at the start.

Walter Becker playing bass on Steely Dan’s Do It Again. Going into the second chorus, he keeps playing the bass line he uses in the verses. Given their attention to detail, it’s shocking this made it to release.

Around 2:26

The messed up keyboard note at 4:19 is one of my favorite things in the world

Huge one: McCartney recording "Her Majesty" on Abbey Road as part of the medley, then cutting it, only to have it show up at the end of the tape when they played the album back.

Solid thread idea.

The first thing that comes to mind is McCready's solo on Thin Air at the Benaroya show, which I realize doesn't count since it was a live recording.

Other than that, I got nothin'.

Spoiler: show
Well except for every note ever recorded by Tom Waits. More "travesties" or "abortions" than "mistakes" or "happy accidents," really.

I can hear it, but the end result doesn't really sound bad at all. The "wrong" bass note sits comfortably with the chords around it

Fun fact (or annoyingly pedantic, not-so-fun fact, since it essentially poo-poos your post): The false start at the beginning of "115th Dream," during the studio sessions, actually leads into an entirely different take, solo acoustic. The false start is tacked onto the band take on the studio record.

Not annoying at all! I had no idea. I just thought it was one of those beautiful mistakes.

I feel like Neil Young's Tonight's the Night probably has a bunch of these, but I'd have to listen to it again to pick out specific examples.

Crank up Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star and you'll hear Sister because Sonic Youth recorded that album over the master tapes from that session.

U2, "Ultra Violet (Light My Way)" - Halfway through the song, the drumming stops for a few beats because Larry dropped his drumstick.
Nine Inch Nails, "Piggy" - The frenetic drum solo was Trent doing a mic test, but he couldn't hear and it got all fucked up. He liked it enough to keep it.
Depeche Mode, "Never Let Me Down Again" - The awesome filtered guitar that starts the intro wasn't meant to to be in that spot. It got queued up by mistake.
James, "Sound" - Tim Booth's ranting where he says "somebody break away, for God's sake" is him literally trying to tell someone to bring the song to a close.
R.E.M., "What's The Frequency, Kenneth?" - The slowing of the tempo as the song ends is because Mike Mills was having an appendicitis attack.

Black dog by led zeppelin. The drumming is all over the place and loses the band at several points. Or perhaps it’s the band losing time with the drumming.
