Colors is definitely his poppiest album as far as mainstream pop is concerned, but I think it was good and not too over-produced. And the songs I saw live translated really well to that setting.

The song played in the credits to The Lego Movie 2 sounded like a Colors b-side but I didn't think anything of it because I wasn't watching the credits. But it was a catchy song so I went looking for the soundtrack and how about that, it was Beck.

Thanks for the bump ruddo, I hadn't heard anything about these new tracks.
Hyperlife (1:37 clip): This sounds promising, almost like the Tron Legacy soundtrack with vocals.
Uneventful Days (full song): I like this a LOT. I appreciate that Beck's voice is pushed back a bit, allowing the synths to take up a good amount of space.
Saw Lighting: Meh. I don't love this one. Feels like a confused mix between a Pharell pop song and a leftover riff from Mellow Gold.
The new album is good, though a bit same-y. It's not an issue per se (as the album seems very dedicated to particular sonic mood), but even for a 40 minute record I was feeling a bit antsy by the end. Saw Lightning sticks out like a sore thumb, and the final track Everlasting Nothing is phenomenal.
He's also left Scientology apparently, so there's that.
I thought it was pretty good, like it was Morning Phase trying time meet Colors halfway. I liked probably 4-5 songs but didn’t dislike any of them. It also weirdly sounds like it could easily be a soundtrack to Stranger Things.

started my Beck playlist at Mellow Gold and just let it play and there's a lot of stuff in here. I'm listening with closed-ear headphones and hearing a lot more than usual. Great stuff hidden in the places speakers tend to murk up.

I think one of the great things about Beck is that if you're in and interested, he can be one of the most rewarding catalogs and careers to dig around in, especially if you go into stuff that's not necessarily on a record. There's so many offbeat paths, different live iterations and takes on songs, one-off live tracks, etc. He's the kind of artist that has a lot at hand if someone's intrigued.
