Giving the full album a first spin...it's got a lot of groove and I really dig Vance Powell's production. As great as the last two albums were, Machine's production definitely gives them a "bigger" sound in the studio and less of a live feel. This one is a nice mix of both. Dig it!
Gotta hand it to Clutch. Hardest working band on the planet. This is a third outstanding effort in a row while deviating from the last couple records sonically and from a songwriting approach. They're like the loosest riffs being played by the tightest band around. Just fucking fantastic. The whole album is solid, but the back half just really gets cooking...the run of A Good Fire through Paper & Strife is just a blast. Ghoul Wrangler>HB Is In Control is just fucking riff city. Love this band!
Dev wrote:Hmmm. I find it hard to believe this is good. I thought they were done after Strange Cousins but loved Earth Rocker. Then Psychic Warfare sucked.
You didn’t like Psychic Warfare? I think it and Earth Rocker are cut from the same cloth, with PW my favorite of the two. Either way man, this album is definitely different than the last two but just as great.
Really diggin' Vision Quest. It's a damn good song through the solo, then that bridge hits with that bass riff and the horns...just killer. Dan's always the anchor in Clutch, but he's really taken his game up a few notches on this one.
