Welcome to Paradise got a lot more airplay in my neck or the woods than Hitchin’ a Ride, which, again, I’ve never heard before.

Also more popular than "Minority", but again, Dookie was already well represented

It's not a big deal, guys. We can just call "Welcome to Paradise" the spiritual winner of this thing and vote on the rest of these shitty songs.

Welcome to Paradise is classic.

Also, will Good Charlotte pull off an upset to advance like Linkin Park did against “Cowboy”? Maybe if we get a round of them vs. Simple Plan

I trust in Jorge's curating ability completely, I just also enjoy watching him defend his position in this, the most meaningless of shit. Same with Jordo in the Nu tourney.

Wiki backs up jorg's Green Day statements. Still, Longview didn't do shit with my 8th grade peers, while Welcome To Paradise was huge. Would love to hear from other Boston area posters if they have the same recollection? Wondering if it was something unique to WBCN/WAAF

This stuff is so anecdotal, and probably tainted by the fact that the people doing the remembering were between, what, 8 and 12 years of age when these songs were popular? In my experience, "Longview" was inescapable; I wasn't even aware of "Welcome to Paradise" until I bought Dookie.

I would never do that; that's the purest musicology there is.

Monolithic FM radio, Columbia House, and no Hot Topic yet. It was a special time.

So it's settled. Welcome to Paradise gets a bye all the way to the final round.

Another great song that missed the cut. The bridge is awful but ignore that if you can.

I like that song a lot. No Doubt has aged well, I'd say.

Longview was definitely a radio hit in the Twin Cities on the hard rock station, but Welcome to Paradise was a mega hit being played on multiple stations CONSTANTLY. And if it were in the tournament I would consider voting for Welcome to Paradise to win the whole thing. Basketcase would’ve been the only GD song that I would’ve guessed surpassed Welcome to Paradise in popularity.
