I think my favorite sounding drum track of all time is on Brenda Lee's original version of "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree." There's barely anything to the performance -- it just feels so warm and crisp.
The Born in the USA track has one of the best snare sounds ever recorded.
Oh man, I feel the total opposite -- I like the BITUSA album but that snare hit is maddening to me, it's like someone repeatedly snapping a belt in your ear. Not a fan.
Though I guess maybe that has to do with the monotony of the part and its prominence in the mix more than the actual capture of the sound.
