Love his voice but ultimately think his discography contains more potential than great music.

That's one of my favorites of his...

I also thought this was another good one from the vault:

"Last Goodbye" is fantastic. Also "Morning Theft".

'Grace' should go in the perfect album thread.

I would've agreed once upon a time, but I think I sit more in the Kevin Davis boat these days

Same. I actually named it #1 in my Greatest Albums Ever list in my high school newspaper. I still really like it, just not as much as I used to. "Eternal Life" is really bad.

It's definitely my least-favorite song in Grace.

For anyone who hasn't heard it, his performance of "Dido's Lament" from the 1995 Meltdown Festival is pretty impressive. Emotional and imperfect.

It's an audience source, so the quality isn't great. I've heard people claim that Elvis Costello, who curated the festival, has the soundboard tapes. But I imagine if that were the case they'd have been released by now.

I love his music. What a waste of great talent.

Wasn't his death due to swimming while drunk?

So missed these days... I think of him every now and then, and can only imagine the kind of music he would be making today with all that talent fully realized. I think at the very least, we would have several albums right now that would all be phenomenal listens. Sigh...

I've been blasting this one lately though:

I think he was totally sober. So he died while swimming.

Yup. I saw a documentary a long time ago, which said that there are all sorts of rumours floating about trying to blame him for the accident, and drunkenness is one. In their grief, people wanted him to be like Kurt Cobain. But yeah, not that I want to take away from the tragedy which was Cobain's death, but the reason why Buckley's death doesn't get much press is that it was so undramatic. He drowned, as far as I know.

One of the greatest songs of all time, that.

EV told a story once about Jeff sitting him down and playing his version of Indifference for him. Apparently it was a religious experience.
