Phil Cook has a new album coming June 1: People are My Drug. First single sounds nice.

For fans of cosmic country, soul, mix tapes, and free stuff: Several years ago MC Taylor (Hiss Golden Messenger) made a couple of mixes called "Wah-Wah Cowboys" Vol. 1 and 2. They're available to stream or download for free on Soundcloud. Highly recommended. That track lists are in the Soundcloud descriptions.

Great song. Apparently the whole album is better than the last.

Also, rumor has Tom Waits possibly stopping by Eaux Claire? have you been hearing anything around town?

They've been keeping a tight lid on all Eaux Claires info. Nobody knows anything... I know Justin Vernon has said Tom Waits is on their wish list, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Glad this is finally out. This is the new song that really blew me away when I saw him a few months ago.

I dig it.

I've actually got HGM Pandora playing right this second. Added some Wilco and Gram Parsons elements to the station. It adds some nice dimensions the playlist.

On "Biloxi," when he says "Houston, you scared me sober," do you do a little fist pump?

HGM and Phil Cook collaborator Ryan Gustafson has a new album out under the name Dead Tongues: Unsung Passage. RIYL rustic, wistful sounding acoustic guitar-harmonica-and-banjo-lead americana.

Not feeling the new Cook record :( The girl that sings is far too prominent on this album. Im here to hear Phil Cook and his incredible soulful voice and i thinks he overpowers to the point of it not even feeling like a phil song/performance.

Yeah...it's not grabbing me like the first one did. I think you hit the nail on the head. Obviously the theme of the album is people, community, etc so it makes sense for him to feature his friends, but I want more Phil. Kinda surprised that like 6 of the 9 songs are covers.

It's still really good, but more of a put it on in the background while I make breakfast on Sunday morning kind of good.

Also his drummer kind of annoys me. He can't just play a straight beat, everything has to be a jazzy shuffle. And now I see he's playing with HGM too...
