Been listenning to Caves Allways at work today. An easy going funky set of instrumentals here. Enjoyable.

Here's opener The Juan.

Jason Isbell's Live at the Ryman is a total cash grab. It sounds like absolute shit. Vocals and guitars way up front, no bass or keyboards in the mix, drums sound like someone beating on plastic barrels. Don't waste your money.

Loving the heck out of the New Cloud Nothings. Few bands do emotional hardcore as good these days.

This came out last week, and I've been playing it a bunch: self- titled debut of Toronto's The Titillators. Ryan Driver on street sweeper bristle bass, Thom and Tania Gill on synth and some vocals (Thom also whistles throughout the album), and Germaine Liu and Phil Melanson on percussion (no drums). They play weirdly spectral and dreamy versions of tunes from the jazz canon.

A few things to tidy up for the end of the year.

Kurt Newman has been making music for over twenty years, first in his hometown of Toronto, then Montreal, Austin, and Santa Barbara. In recent years, he has returned to Toronto and leads the Nashville Minimalism Unit, a band that plays long-form instrumental country tunes with experimental and minimalist overtones. He put out a bunch of tracks in September and October on Bandcamp that aren't an album proper. Here's a couple:

"Hoss Fuzz"

"Mystery Waltz"

First new Pram album in ten years, Across the Meridian, came out in July on Domino.

Station, a collaborative album by Automatisme and Thisquietarmy that was released last week on Liberation Through Hearing records, a new Montreal imprint.

Lastly, three:four records is a Swiss label that I've been casually following since last year when they put out The Byre by Eric Chenaux & Norberto Lobo. I haven't had time to dig much into stuff they've put out this year, but here's a couple I've been into recently:

Norberto Lobo - Estrela. Slightly bent smooth jazz.

Orgue Agnès - A Une Gorge. Debut from a French trio that makes a wild stew of a sound; something that manages to touch on rhythm heavy folk, wiry post-punk, and krautrock, but not really sound much like any of that.
