Based on a recent podcast, I'm gonna dive into:

1. In a Poem Unlimited - U.S. Girls
2. Dirty Computer - Janelle Monae
3. Freedom - Amen Dunes

I started the U.S. Girls record and I really dig the opening track. I think I'm gonna end up loving that record. We'll see.

Yeah it's good. Also check the Lucy Dacus album (based on a recent podcast).

Ahem

Never heard of them.

i'm hit-and-miss on Kamasi. i have to be in just the right mood to listen to an entire album. but that idea was so cool.

I haven’t gotten it yet. How is the album?

Really good! Long, but really good.

I think my favorite so far this year is Eric Chenaux's Slowly Paradise. Just weirdly shaped enough to make people wonder what's going on, but the songs are still lovely and mellow.

This. It’s good. But really long. You’re in it for a while.

I prefer modal, cool, and parts of hard bop. Kamasi does those really well, but also moves into other styles of jazz that I don’t enjoy as much.

Please bring bongos to our tipi.

Gonna go ahead and upgrade this from "really good" to "album of the year contender." Incredible stuff if you're on board for the long ride. "The Space Traveller's Lullaby" is probably my favorite individual piece so far.

2018 is the year of Ye. I don't really care about much else.

I got it and weirdly been running. And since I am not up to running 2.5 hours continuously, I have not heard it all yet. About a half hour in. Will continue on my run tomorrow.

There's a good chance it'll move up into the number one spot. That record is outstanding.
