Cheers!

God knows how long it'll take to arrive in Australia (from Chicago) however.

That’s really pretty spen. Awesome pickup!

I just got my strat back from the spa. New switch. Clean. Frets re worked.

Feels like new. Amazing difference it makes. I’m not sure why I don’t get them treated more often.

Kinda want a u-bass just to noodle 'round on. The upper end ones can sound like an upright bass due to the fat, synthetic strings, too. But then again perhaps I should just keep saving for a Rickenbacker 4003. Gear life is hard!

Nice, Spenno.

During the summer, my gear addiction dies down while I spend most of my time outdoors. It's that time of year, though. I just picked up an EHX Pitch Fork to play around with. Not something I'll use often, as with 90% of my pedals, but it is cool. It tracks really well. The drop tune function fucks with me. Even though the guitar is in standard, I feel like I have to go extra easy on the strings for fear I'm gonna bend 'em out. Some of the dual harmony settings are fun, too.

I have always been underwhelmed when I picked up rickenbackers. They lack oomph.

Guy Picciotto from Fugazi also disagrees

Last time I had anyone work on my guitars, one of our best regarded local luthiers fucked up my Telecaster so badly I ended up selling it and it kind of broke my heart. I'm still mystified by the whole thing. I've been terrified to have anyone touch my gear since, though my Jaguar really needs a look over. I've been thinking about shipping it to someone interstate but that's a big ordeal for a simple set-up.

Unless your frets are toast or your truss rod is fucked, a set-up is not a big deal to do yourself. You don't need to go nuts and buy all sorts of crazy tools, either. There are plenty of tutorials to watch if you have no idea what to do. Joe Walsh has a decent one that doesn't go overboard.

It's funny you mention that, I watched it on the weekend and loved every second!

In fact, it gave me the courage to adjust my own truss road for the first time (which is kind of a pain on a Jaguar, as it's in the heel of the neck.) I still think the frets need a bit of work but it's getting there.

I feel ya, Spenno. The same thing happened to a good friend of mine -- he had the best local guy set up his Strat and it came back sounding like utter shit. If anything, it made me apprehensive to have a go myself. I guess basses are harder to screw up, but still...

They definitely have a signature vintage, almost muddy sound.

Rick's are great for single-note guitar lines or diads. Lots of growl built into the tone, you get some cool harmonics without having to overdrive anything on the output.

I could take or leave Rick guitars, but the 4003 is an incredible bass.

I broke down and bought an HX Effects over the weekend.

Image

Planning to simplify my live setup to just the HX Effects and a choice fuzz or two (and a wah until i can justify the expense of a Mission Electronics expression pedal). I mostly just use a delay and a bit of reverb and wah here and there but i have this giant board filled with stuff that i can eliminate with the HX Effects. Not to mention all the cabling and power supply hum. I can now say goodbye to the tuner, noise suppressor, loop switcher, channel + reverb switcher, EQ and power supply.
