Turbulence rarely bothers me. It’s just white water rafting in the sky.

Nah, weed chills me the fuck out. But a lot of times I can get away with just CBD, too.

I used to prefer minor turbulence because it reminded me of being in a car driving down the road. The little rhythmic jostling was sort of pleasant and put me to sleep. No idea when that changed. But something happened to me in my twenties that made me terrified of it.

I just went through a patch of the worst fucking turbulence, it was so disturbing. People were crying and praying all around me. I know turbulence is generally safe but for a moment I thought a motor must have failed and we were falling to our deaths

do you have a greater appreciation for RM now?

Honestly, no

I'd imagine the opposite would be true. Meaning, that I'd have less appreciation for RM after that experience. Life's too short and all that.

I went through a year (probably 2 different flights) where I suddenly became afraid of turbulence and dying. I think it’s just the thoughts of mortality as we age. Then I got over it when I thought about how I drive a 3500 pound vehicle at 70mph amongst hundreds of idiots doing the same, putting my life into strangers’ hands several times a day.

only once was i ever worried...coming into newark after about a 2 hour delay..horrible turbulence for the last 45 min or so..pilot announces to the flight attendants to prepare the cabin for landing..i kid you not we were probably 30 feet off the ground ready to land in foggy, rainy conditions and at the last second before landing the pilot climbed back up as fast as he could and took a sharp turn..most people were screaming and almost coming out of their seats..my wife and i just looked at each other, both looking pale...we ended up circling and landing about 30 minutes later...ugh..the pilot never did explain..i think we were either going to outrun the runway or there was another plane in front of us on the tarmac..who knows

Despite my general lack of fear of flying in a plane, I would never ride in a helicopter. Fuck that.

That's a solid point and I bet that my fear of flying increased shortly after I moved to NYC and stopped driving all the time. I bet that has a lot to do with it, actually.
