I’m looking forward to milder winters, living close to the ocean, and driving to wineries/country pubs on the weekends. And watching the second half of the US election year from afar.

Please report back when you hear your first "krikey" in person.

I think I’ve heard a brother in law say it. Doesn’t happen often.

You forgot Bunning's snags (sausage w/onion on sliced bread) and live AFL on tap.

I haven’t had a Bunning’s snag yet, but yes. Will be hard to beat Home Depot’s Chicago dogs and gyros.

Hey Spike. I think it's very cool you're moving to Australia. Are you excited? Nervous? What changes are you expecting? Surely the laws are different. Are you afraid of feeling like an outcast? Being the only ones with an "accent"? Do you expect your accent to change over time?

A little bit of all that, tree.

Excited, less nervous and more anxious with all there is to do.

I’m expecting to spend more time outdoors and leveraging the health benefits of that.

The laws aren’t so much different, but certainly more strict than in the land of the free.

My visits there, I’ve mostly enjoyed being different and fielding questions and barbs about America. It certainly helps with small talk. That being said, it’ll be interesting to eventually blend in more. I think my kid will develop an accent, and I’ll adapt a bit of one but never fully. I just hope I can understand more of the accents there quickly. It can be a challenge with my father in law and one of my brother in laws, for instance. Theirs are quite thick.

Oh, OK, well it certainly helps you already have family from the culture who can help you assimilate. Exciting times.

Thanks man. Football is Monday mornings, which is kinda surreal when I’ve watched in the past. Baseball will be hard to follow since so many games, but we’ll see.

It’s a big opportunity professionally for my wife, but her being close to her family again after fifteen years played a big part in the decision. We always kinda figured we’d end up moving Down Under at some point, and the stars aligned now.

Yes, your posts about your recent move have been giving me anxiety haha. We’ll plop down in a serviced apartment when we first arrive, so at least our initial dwelling shouldn’t be too much BS.

I’ll probably do dual citizenship as a practicality, but that’s a few years down the road. I’ll have plenty of rights after three months of living there.

Counterpoint: In Australia you don't have to be terrified of any police interaction. Chances of one of our boys in blue killing you are quite slim.

Welcome, glad to have you. Make sure you bring beer.
