It’s weird. I think it’s weird when I get a hotel room and there isn’t one.

there's just never a good balance with them. you want to melt some butter fast? toss it in the microwave and let it splatter the walls.

no thanks.

you know you can cover the dish with a paper towel, right?

this changes everything.

Because of my business and various existing contracts we have in place, I need to have access to reliable internet when we go caravanning in Dec/Jan this year. Australia is huge and mostly empty, so this is a real issue for me. Phone coverage is spotty at best, and simply not available at worst. I don't intend to do a lot of work while away, but I absolutely must be able to do work at certain times when I need to.

I've looked at a few options and think I'm going to go with putting some money in Mr Musk's pocket and purchase a Starlink RV kit. They cover all of the southern half of Australia now and by all accounts the service works damn well down here. $1,000 AUD for the kit and then $174 AUD a month for the service. Expensive for sure, but the kit is about the same cost as my other options (4G Modem plus antenna plus pole etc) and has the bonus that once done I can just unsub from the monthly charges and either resell the gear or keep it for when we move to fulltime van life in a few years. Also as we are hiring the van a wholly portable solution works well for me too.

I am so ready to get going on this trip I can't even tell you.

Probably should have put this in the "Future Purchases" thread.

There must be grey nomads who can share their experiences. Good luck getting them to shut up afterwards though.

Living in Broome for 20-od years I have much experience with the grey nomads. I can't believe I am going to become one of them! I have learnt that if you ever start a discussion with them always have an escape plan available. I used to use the old "Oh! Look at the time! Gotta run and grab the kids from sports training - nice chatting!" and then leave quickly while they were still showing you pictures of their grandkids.

Related - the wiffey has been joking that with her post-chemo and me just generally balding we will be the "no hair nomads" this trip. I can dig it.

The worst is when you get stuck behind a caravan of grey nomads on the way to your campground and have to pull off to see the Big Peanut

Can (and certainly will) claim it as a tax deduction for sure. Still gotta front the cash though.

Audiotechnica are a damn solid headphone brand. My son has a set of those (earlier model) from when he started high school. He was boarding and they got punished, still kicking though.

I had a gorgeous pair of ATH-AD900's that I was devastated to accidentally step on and kill.

Nice one, 'sleep.
