What's funny is I'm now about as old as you old guys were when I first joined RM. Back then, I thought you were all really old. Now you're all truly ancient and I don't think I'm that old myself, after all

Have a big travel decision to make soon. I have a milestone birthday coming up a year from now, and one thing I've always wanted to do is travel to St. Helena Island in the South Atlantic. But you have to plan pretty far in advance, fly to South Africa, then 6 more hours on a small plane to the island. Stay a week, then reverse the flight. I think it would be neat as a trip for this specific birthday, but I also feel like I would want some time to explore South Africa as well, so that pushes the trip pretty much into 2.5 to 3 weeks. Not sure either of our employers would go for that at this point. My other option would be to save that for a retirement trip and instead do either North England and Scotland, or some kind of Nordic trip.

Are you a big Napoleon buff, ruddo?
lol not really but i am aware of his history on that island
So what’s the draw? Just a remote place that looks nice?
Back off man.
I’m genuinely curious.
I love the feeling of insignificance. Of feeling small in this big world and universe. I think I’d really get that risk being out in the middle of the Atlantic like that
Do the trip for your 50th Ruddo. Go back and see South Africa another time.
One of the best memories I have of our recent caravan adventure was sitting around a small fire totally alone (well, the 2 of us, but you know) about 300m in the scrub off the Nullarbor Highway. Vast sky overhead, literally in the middle of nowhere. The insignificance was very real. And awesome.

We’re in Palm Springs via Las Vegas (Death Valley National Park) for Spring Break. Seeing Tay Tay on the 25th to kick things off.
That sounds incredible.
i'm really looking forward to it. we're doing a helicopter tour of the hoover dam and grand canyon. pray for us.
did you do this yet, and if so, how was it?
we absolutely loved our little hike into the grand canyon last week, all of northern Arizona, really.
we also started watching a show on apple tv+ called The Reluctant Traveler, with Eugene Levy. the last episode we watched was of him taking a trip to southern Utah, which includes a helicopter ride over part of the GC.
