You guys realize that barbacks and busboys also depend on these tips for a chunk of their weekly income and that they only get a fraction of what goes in the jar or on the square reader, right? I'm okay tipping at a place with a support staff unless it's a place that publicly boasts that they're paying high wages, in which case I assume they're already passing the payroll buck to me via high priced "fast food".

When I bought merch at PJ in Oakland, there was an option to tip. WTF? The merch people at the show were employees of the venue, not PJ. Even smaller bands that have their own merch people do it, and it's awkward. I've only ever tipped one merch person - the guy who runs it for my favorite band. Tipped him $10 on two separate occasions after buying over $100 worth of stuff. He does it all himself - I saw him putting all of the the totes in the trailer after the show. He works his ass off.
And tipping for buying only pre-packaged cans at a brewery. Do I have to tip grocery store workers now when I buy beer?

I have zero patience for my dental hygienist and the nurse who meets with me before my doctor.
"I don't care what you see in my teeth or your theories on cleaning techniques. I'm paying for the dentist, send them in please, and keep the chit chat to a minimum."
And they made the nurse at the doctor's office review a questionnaire with me that I just filled out ... for the millionth time!
"Yes, my mother still has Alzheimer's. Yes, my grandfather had a heart attack, we didn't dig him up and re-diagnose that in the past year. Yes, there are issues I want to talk to the doctor about, but you're not the doctor, and I don't need you to tell her, I will tell her when you move this along and get her in here."

No. I thought them. But that nurse could tell I was getting impatient. I couldn't hide it after arriving 15 minutes early for my appointment AS INSTRUCTED, and having to wait in the waiting room for 45 minutes.
