If we were to take him at his word (which we should not because he’s a politician), you gotta respect Manchin for basing his decision on representing his WV constituents and not blindly following his colleagues from places like California. It’s almost as if this is how it’s supposed to work?

If we take him at his word.
So we should believe him because of his constituents or because he owns a fucking coal company?

Don’t get me wrong, I hate Joe Manchin and think he owns a disproportionate amount of the suffering we could have all avoided in the coming years… But I agree he is, more or less, representing his constituents’ interests. The problem is that they’re too shortsighted/dumb to really understand what their long term interests are; if Manchin were a proper leader, he’s be guiding them away from coal and towards some good infrastructure and social safety nets…
But at the end of the day, my real frustration is with his constituents more than Manchin.

It seems pretty likely that Dems lose control of both chambers. Of course it's not guaranteed, but certainly likely.
That said, are both parties trying to not be in power? Ds are splintering (Moderates vs. Progressives) and Rs seem to be too (Trumpers & everyone else).
If the gun thing goes through that means the only Senator with their name on the two biggest pieces of legislation so far in Biden's presidency is this person:
