Hey man, I was just repeating what I heard. I claim no expertise in this area

This guy gets it:

https://www.usnews.com/news/politics/articles/2018-07-12/sen-chris-coons-democrats-need-to-abandon-wild-eyed-race-to-left

Quote:
"If we as a Democratic Party are going to move from a minority at every level that is dedicated to resistance, to a majority that is capable of governing, we have got to move from grievance to optimism," Coons said in a speech in Washington. "And we've got to abandon a politics of anxiety that is characterized by wild-eyed proposals and instead deliver ideas and practical solutions."

"Instead of having something that makes a Twitter hashtag and gets you on Rachel Maddow and fires people up, we need to have something that fires people up and is a policy position we can actually defend."

"Forty percent of voters self-identify as pragmatic or moderate. We cannot abandon them," he warned.

Bad move, but it's nothing compared to what Sasha Cohen got people to say on his new show. Many politicians are just people trying to make themselves useful within our gov't; at least she admitted she was out of her element. Let's not count her out just yet?

It's just another disappointing sign of things to come from the blue team. We may win, but is it really going to be any better?

bad ideas, low-IQ populists, and a brand of politics that makes a virtue out of incitement combine to render a modern political monoculture that ensures no problem will go un-compounded

Yeah, that's fine if she's not fully versed on the Palestine/Israeli conflict, but if that's the case, she probably shouldn't use the term "occupiers of Palestine." Even if she knew everything about the conflict AND felt Israel was in the wrong, that phrase is going hurt her cause.

I'm a little late, but I've started working with some groups that promote economics education both within my state and nationally. This is just a quick post so I'm not providing data to back up what I'm claiming, but since the great recession the trend seems to be an expansion of financial literacy education to an extent, but unfortunately it seems to have come at the expense of economics education. There's been a tremendous expansion of voluntary and elective financial literacy education courses, but states have been slow to mandate them.

20 states require an economics credit for graduation and 17 require financial literacy. Florida (my state) doesn't require a financial literacy class so it's not one of the 17, however, it does require that students are taught financial literacy within their economics class. This is good because people badly need financial literacy education, but it's unfortunate because it takes away from students getting the chance to learn economics. Oh, and this is within a 1/2 credit course already. So even in a state like Florida that ostensibly promotes both economics and financial literacy education they're essentially just paying lip service to the idea.

(Anecdote warning) I've begun presenting workshops to economics teachers over the past 2 years or so and there's another problem with economics education that goes unspoken: a shocking amount of economics teachers are woefully lacking in their own understanding of economics. My theory is that because economics is often an elective and/or 1/2 credit course that isn't subject to an EOC in almost any state, it's become a dumping ground for the social studies department's worst teachers. It's really unfortunate. The amount of economics teachers who openly admit they're only teaching it because they have to and they don't like it is really disheartening. If the teachers don't understand it or like it, how are students supposed to benefit from it?

I don't know if it's a state requirement, but my school district did require an economics course. No financial literacy in there, though. I had a awesome teacher, she was really into the subject, explained her material well, and was one of the more popular teachers in the school.

She has no actual understanding of what she is talking about, so now the plan is to make us all late for the home/away shows.

Democrats talking of impeachment and abolishing ICE would be a great example of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
