Because politics in practice is so boring. Classical liberal generally. I think at my core, I trend toward voluntaryism, but like all anarchist philosophies, it's fatally flawed and ridiculous when pushed to the extreme. Talking to actual voluntaryists make me want to build a wall, though. I might be open to Georgism, despite my loathing of most socialist concepts. Paying rent sucks. |

In practical terms? Democratic socialist, I guess. In larger terms? I think society is mostly a mistake and we have completely fucked up in terms of what we place value on. |

The other day I read a pretty good argument for land ownership as a requirement for voting, but now I can't find it. Just take my word for it. |

LoathedVermin72 wrote: Land ownership is an antiquated concept yeah, but the reasons for it as a requirement for voting (at the time) were sound. Today, it would probably be a little different. |

Surely there is a better system out there than democracy. It really is just mob rule. And the ability of hundreds of millions of people to make the best choice, or even a better than terrible one, is next to impossible. We just had an election between Trump and Hillary, for God's sake. And Trump won. Forcing the majority's will on the minority is no more morally justified than the opposite. Let's devise a replacement. It all starts here on RM. |

Let's devise a replacement. It all starts here on RM. Democracy is the only system of any merit. But democracy comes in many variations. If the US wanted to, there are plenty of other ways it could fill the congress. The first past the post voting system, means that it is very difficult for a third or a fourth party to emerge. "The majority is always wrong, the minority is rarely right." Which means that even in a democracy, if only the majority have a say, then it can easily turn into a tyranny of the majority. |
