Deplatforming is a stepping stone to criminalized speech.

That Dawkins story features the best single-sentence encapsulation of the modern regressive left I think I've read yet:
“We had booked this event based entirely on his excellent new book on science, when we didn’t know he had offended and hurt – in his tweets and other comments on Islam – so many people.” said KPFA in an email to ticket buyers...

It really does seem like these fanatics are committed to dragging science - and everyone involved in the effort to improve the scope of knowledge and understanding of the world - backwards several hundred years to their postmodern-inspired hellscape, consequences be damned.

Liberals who favor "culture" over progress and basic human rights are truly confounding.

I've never read Harrison Bergeron, so...?

But otherwise, this is awesome! This person has a progressive belief she(?) wants to share with kids, is able to produce it on a low budget and share it via a no-cost distribution platform (with cries of "Who's gonna fund PBS?!" in the background), and the overall aesthetic isn't terrible considering its target audience.

I hope she succeeds in her goals. Of all the crap I see every time I look at the internet, this is like the least-threatening thing ever. It's way less threatening to our society than our collective love affair with kitten videos (or bird videos).

Ben Shapiro is up for a talk at UC Berkeley. The University appears to want to allow this talk.

Public Universities apparently need to be pushed to do this.

I'm sure you'd be equally sanguine if Milo Yiannopoulos produced a video extolling the virtues white, Western culture. I mean, it's just a dude with a conservative believe he(!) wants to share with kids, able to be produced at low cost yet remain aesthetically pleasing.

Right?

But his belief is rooted in fear and hate; hers is rooted in inclusion and acceptance.

Two things:

1.) Remember who the audience is. These are children who think it's possible that a fairy trades you money for teeth put under your pillow. Do you really think they can look critically at and understand the complexities of identity, gender, sexuality, equality, etc. with regards to biological determinism vs. social construction over the course global history that influences the whole concept of privilege?

2.) Inclusion and acceptance are words used to trick people into accepting identity politics, which itself is about neither. It's about power hierarchies and tearing down existing hierarchies that have been deemed to grant privilege to the whatever has been designated the "powerful class". In this context, all human interaction is based on power dynamics and by it's very existence the privileged class oppresses the underprivileged class. Thus, a children's song about fighting privilege is really a power exercise about conditioning the child to accept an alternative hierarchy to what they would otherwise self-construct from social interactions naturally in their society (think making kids sing the Star Spangled Banner to condition them for nationalism). It's entirely possible you may agree with such an effort, and that's a perfectly fair way to think, but it's dishonest to pretend this is like singing 'We Are the World'.

Just playing devil's advocate here, but isn't this just moral relativism? "There's no way to know what's right, so I just won't teach my kid anything."

You're imposing your own adult understanding on the video though. While all that stuff you mentioned is probably influencing the girl's video, she's not imposing that complicated thought process on her viewers; her core message is so much simpler than what you've proposed. It'd be like attacking Sesame Street for having a pro-immigrant agenda because a Latino runs the Sesame Street bodega.
