I feel like this is going to keep going and that it's related to the Star Wars study where it's done to make people look stupid. I just wish more people weren't stupid.

I would normally agree, but armed with only the information in Burt's posts it seems like this is attempting to show the extreme nature of some of the postmodern ideals by showing that people who are supposed to be experts can't tell a legitimate study from a spoof. Of course, it may not actually show that. It might be showing the lack of rigor involved in the peer review process. It might show a publication bias on the part of the journal. It might just show that they picked a non-serious non-rigorous journal and exploited it for the lulz. Hard to say.

I'm gonna state the obvious here, but...
Sociology is also a really easy target. I would almost argue that there's really no such thing as "peer-reviewed" sociology works in the typical "scientific" sense.
