Of all of his potential opening salvos today, I did not anticipate blatant, unadulterated Islamaphobia:

Stark difference from the usual “fake news/all lies/never happened.”

Can’t wait to watch Mitt Romney try the Flake maneuver on this, after his oh so serious oped.

Man, the GOP really loves their Arizona "Border Rancher" story lines.

But isn't Bush's Secure Fence Act actually to blame for the increase of crossings on private land?

I've read a couple of stories that say the new fences in AZ border towns basically pushed crossers out into the ranches.

Hogan Gidley was on Fox News just now and refused to flatly deny the claims, even when the Fox News host pointed out that his zig zagging was not in any way a denial.

I've wondered about this. Theoretically the "wall" will be built closer to towns and populated areas first, right? So at least in the short term, you'll see more people crossing in more remote ranch areas, right? I'm not too familiar with where a fence/wall currently exists. How do ranchers along the border actually feel about all of this?

They did largely vote for Trump, but from what I've read, most of them would rather see better roads, a few more agents and better technology than a better/bigger wall.

Well then maybe they shouldn't have voted for the guy whose campaign slogan was "Build that wall!" Sending them my thoughts and prayers.

Shit like this is why I will never understand the undecideds. They're so fickle and dumb.

Undecideds are a gift to us from our own culture, which sympathizes the most with those individuals who feel that the basic efforts necessary to stay informed and take part in democracy are a wearisome burden which has been unfairly hoisted upon you.

That was the intention through Bush W and Obama. There’s a couple of great podcasts from Radiolab about this exact plan of deterrence. I’m on my phone but I’ll try to find the links.

Radiolab Border Trilogy part 1 is the one. All three are great listens.
