In an interview with The Associated Press, Trump compared the [Saudi Arabia] situation to the allegations of sexual assault leveled against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearing.
“I think we have to find out what happened first,” he said. “Here we go again with, you know, you’re guilty until proven innocent. I don’t like that. We just went through that with Justice Kavanaugh and he was innocent all the way as far as I’m concerned.”

Fair warning that I am kind of a bonehead, but this seems like an issue for the Saudis and Turks. Why should anyone else care? The handkerchief-clutching seems very confected. Middle East regime is brutal; in other news, dog bites man.
Why bother risking a strategic relationship with the Saudis by taking a hardline stance over this issue of all things?

Obviously we can't allow them killing journalists that don't agree with them (same with Russia etc).
Besides he had close ties to the US: "Khashoggi relocated to the United States in June 2017 and began writing for The Washington Post in September 2017, continuing thereafter. In the Post, he criticized the Saudi Arabian-led blockade against Qatar, Saudi Arabia's dispute with Lebanon, Saudi Arabia's diplomatic dispute with Canada, and the Kingdom's crackdown on dissent and media.
According to The Spectator, "With almost two million Twitter followers, he was the most famous political pundit in the Arab world and a regular guest on the major TV news networks in Britain and the United States."

That seems more like a conspiracy theory.
We probably do follow different news sources but the famine in Yemen is happening and lots of notable Brits are calling for Britain to stop selling weapons to SA as a result of it

You know I can't help but wonder if this could be the big foreign policy challenge/blunder that we've all hoped to avoid with this amateur-hour administration. This really is one of those instances where Trump may find himself alone on an island.
