Schumer's nickname is the 'Senator from Wall Street' so don't exactly expect him to go on a hungerstrike over anything

As an outsider it has always been odd to observe US commentary on bipartisanship in US politics. There seems to be universal agreement, or at least lip service, to this idea that the main thing wrong with US politics is a lack of bipartisanship. This point gets brought up by members of both parties, by the public and by the media with very little questioning of that assumption.
From outside looking in it just appears that ones side is far more frequently playing the role of dove in that bipartisan approach. And if that's the case, then the entire system gravitates towards the hawks agenda. The Democrats actually need to become more partisan and understand that one side is not playing the same game they think they are playing.
The counterpoint to this, I'm sure, is wrapped up in my incomplete knowledge of how the mechanics of government actually work across your three branches, but I struggle to believe that the US would be in a worse political mess if the Democrats had actually been more partisan than they have been for the last 1-2 decades.

no, you're exactly right. the Dems are pussies and always compromise for the sake of some progress. meanwhile the GOP will assf*ck everyone to the max extent they are able to; and are content to just sit on their thumbs while the world catches fire if need be.
but you know i guess that's the Dems doing what's best from the "mature" perspective

They’ve cut off his internet—his lifeline, and won’t let most visitors in to see him. Those who try to leave messages, like Trump presidential adviser Roger Stone, who left his card earlier this year, are apparently turned away. Not even former Baywatch star Pamela Anderson, his ardent supporter who was a frequent guest and suspected paramour, can get past the guards.
But last week, journalists from the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, who have visited Assange annually for the last six years, were able to once again gain access—on the condition that they do not print an interview that might provoke even more pressure on Ecuador to kick him out.
What they found was a depleted man on the verge of going mad.
