maybe without a war in afghanistan or syria, the military industrial complex doesn't pay the GOP re-election paycheck?
so then trump's motorcade is driven in front of the book depository

they should pass just enough funding for a 100 Yard prototype of the wall, and then include a contingency that the Dems get to select any 5 persons they wish, and if any of the 5 are able to get over the wall, it does not get built; but if all 5 fail to get over, the whole damn thing gets built
if the defense dept has $6.5 T unaccounted for then they can def find another $1-2T here or there for the full border length
and with cheap mexican labor and imported brazilian steel it might even cost less

I know we’re all immune to bafflement now, but I want to break down how stupid this whole situation is:
A compromise bill existed and had the votes to pass.
The president got embarrassed by a woman on tv, and built himself back up by tweeting complaints about the lack of wall funding in the compromise bill.
Ryan’s House then wrote a new bill that they KNEW WOULDNT PASS in order to placate the president. They essentially guaranteed a shutdown in order to protect the president from having to capitulate on a demand they didn’t want him to make in the first place
Now, with a bill that didn’t have to exist and which has no path to 60 votes, they want to break the senate and turn it into a pure majority rule institution...for a bill they knew didn’t work when they wrote it.
And here’s why it amazes me: polling, including internal Republican polls, point to the wall and immigration talk as the issue that hurt Republicans most in the midterms. It hurt them with virtually every demographic except white uneducated males of retirement age or greater. Hell, late deciders in the midterms were majority Republican by affiliation, but voted Democrat. And Republican internal polling went so far as to indicate that, if not checked or reversed, it might eventually be an affiliation-breaker for as many as 10% of their remaining voters.
The immigration talk endears them to Stephen Miller, Tucker Carlson, 40% of Republican voters....and no one else. It just helped cost many Republican lawmakers their jobs. Now, the remainder are more willing to cause a shutdown over it than they are prepared to allow the president to be seen having his stupid bluff called.

We get these emails daily about stories of note in the news. This one caught my eye because the VA has almost always outperformed private hospitals but they decided to say it's because of Fearless Leader instead of, you know, the norm.
Quote:
San Marcos Corridor News (San Marcos, California), Dec. 17: Study Shows VA Hospitals Outperform Private Hospitals Under New Trump AdministrationAccording to an independent Dartmouth study recently published this week in Annals of Internal Medicine, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) hospitals outperform private hospitals in most health care markets throughout the country. “This is proof that the hard work and dedication of our VA employees is making a real difference in the lives of our nation’s Veterans,” said VA Secretary Robert Wilkie. “It validates the strong work we’re doing for Veterans under President Trump’s leadership in giving our heroes the very best quality of care that they have earned through their faithful service to our country.”
Based on this article, it would appear the guy thought "that's gotta be fake news" and then did the research to prove it wrong and was instead proved wrong.
Quote:
Weeks initiated the research after reading multiple studies from recent years that had found VA hospitals performed better than other medical systems. He was skeptical of the research, he said, because it compared data on a national level, not by region.
Quote:
Though he used to work for the VA, Weeks said he was critical of the agency in the past. Going into the study, he thought he might find a few well-performing VA hospitals had skewed the data in previous research.
Quote:
"One has to wonder whether outsourcing care is the right choice if we care about veterans' outcomes," Weeks said. "The VA is, for the most part, doing at least as well as the private sector in a local setting, and pretty often are the best performers in that setting."
