Well, at least we solved that problem of insane shut ins shooting up the Vegas strip for the first time ever. What to do about all the other shooting deaths...
The CNN town hall looks more and more like damage control from Broward County office holders.
I wandered onto my high school campus to say hi to a teacher a year after I graduated and a hall monitor immediately identified me and demanded that I go to the front office. Maybe if I had a rifle bag slung over my shoulder they would have behaved differently, but jesus the system broke down in Florida. Also, locking up bathrooms because of vaping?
The question is, will they just strike down NYCs nonsensical law about transporting firearms, or will the affirm the right to carry a firearm outside the home, which Heller and MacDonald did not touch on.
I'm hoping for nationwide shall* issue at the end of the next term, but that's an incredibly optimistic view. Elsewhere folks guffaw at the idea of a right to concealed carry, but IF such a right were to be found, it would be due to the ban on open carry, at least specifically to CA. If a right to carry generally applies then the state gets to choose the manner in which it occurs, open or concealed.
It's not likely to happen, but if we get shall issue*, we have the Black Panthers and Reagan to thank for it.
*shall issue means that if you pass a background check and fulfill other requirements such as training, you get a permit to carry concealed
may issue is the default in more restrictive states, which means you have to establish a justification to carry, which is poorly defined and usually based on wealth/ contributing to politicians/ living in a rural area where the police are more carry friendly. In my county, which is may issue, there's somewhere between 1 and 10 concealed carry licenses.
I guess this isn't newsworthy because it didn't go beyond drawing a firearm. I'm pretty sure we would have heard about it had the hat been on the other head.
Regardless of the offenders politics, he doesn't seem to understand how concealed carry works. You can't aggressively engage randos and then pull your piece when they raise their voice at you.
Maybe one of you have more up to date numbers to include universal carry states, but at least the old numbers that mostly covered may/shall issue permits showed that concealed carry permit holders are far less likely that police officers to criminally offend.
