I’ve seen more TikTok videos than I care to admit, of clearly mentally unwell teens and adults doing absolutely mental shit to people, jumping up in their faces, grabbing their dogs and running away with them, even breaking into their houses etc etc etc
It’s frankly bizarre that more if not most of them don’t get shot They’d deserve it too. But TikTok is basically fuckin society up from the inside and giving these people a platform. It won’t end well for them. Or society.

Shooter was in a mental institution for two weeks earlier this year. Apparently late onset schizophrenia is a thing, which is normally associated with delusions but otherwise no issues with disorganized thoughts or problems understanding. Not clear thats the diagnosis, but family reported delusions of people speaking ill of him after he got hearing aids.

The Senate voted to restore the ability and right to purchase firearms to veterans with documented mental issues hours before the Maine shootings. Hasn’t the GOP’s main defense of gun ownership been that only mentally defective people kill other people with guns and we have to make sure those people can’t legally purchase firearms? Doesn’t one fly in the face of the other?

Is this about VA conservatorships? Having someone else in charge of your finances normally does not strip you of your right to vote, etc. These are not people that were involuntarily committed or otherwise found to be prohibited persons.
Granted, this is a weird edge case and I'd assume most people that can't manage their finances probably shouldn't have guns, but there's no due process.

I don’t think it has anything to do with finances.

The Department of Veteran Affairs is currently required to send the names of veterans who need assistance managing their benefits to the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System.
Sounds exactly like what I was talking about. Being in a conservatorship != a danger to ones self or others.

What will be the pro-school shooting contingent's response to this?

I was wondering where those MAC-10 or Tec-9 parts kits came from, that's kind of hilarious.
Gun Buybacks were always dubious, but this makes it extra. A grandmother dropping off her (incapacitated offspring's) weapon at a gun buyback might return a functional firearm back into use by a prohibited person faster than just storing it until they get out of jail. If Moms demand was a serious org they would have been on top of this.
