On straw purchases, enforcement, and where "crime guns" (at least in one region) are coming from:
Quote:
From 2014 to 2020, six small retailers in south and northeast Philadelphia sold more than 11,000 weapons that were later recovered in criminal investigations or confiscated from owners who had obtained them illegally, according to an examination of Pennsylvania firearms tracing data by the gun control group Brady, the most comprehensive analysis of its kind in decades.
The report’s conclusions confirm what law enforcement officials have long known. A small percentage of gun stores — 1.2 percent of the state’s licensed dealers, according to Brady — accounted for 57 percent of firearms that ended up in the hands of criminals through illegal resale or direct purchases by “straw” buyers who turned them over to people barred from owning guns.
its really tiresome to see these ¨good guys¨ talking about any political stuff in tv while also being kinda funny and hip and cool....its just...please enough of this shit.
You can't fix the issue overnight, but any little thing to start the process would help.
-Minimum age to purchase a firearm: 25 -30 day background check -If you are found to be buying a gun for someone else...harsh penalties (Years ago I was at a Cabelas or Bass Pro with my Father in Law looking at handguns. A guy and his wife came up to buy a gun. She was buying it because he wouldn't pass the background check.) -Ban assault weapons -Ban high capacity mags for all guns (Doesn't really affect the stuff already in circulation, but could help down the line)
I don't know. Just make it a nuisance to buy a gun; maybe it will give the potential shooter time to rethink or look for help.
Yes, guns are still had by criminals on the streets. Like I said, start with the little things.
It's called a straw purchase and it's already a felony. Prosecutors and judges doing their fucking jobs is another story.
true.
Maybe instead of putting a bunch of money towards armed guards in schools and then watching them hide in their cars whenever there's a real threat, we could dedicate serious resources to tracking and prosecuting these types of gun crimes through state and federal agencies.
When people have beat you up in the past did a school resource officer ignore it or something?

FFLs receive training on ways to identify straw purchases and are supposed to deny those transfers. If there's a pattern of them not doing so, their licenses should absolutely be pulled. No argument there.

Didn't that happen at the congressional baseball thing that Steve Scalise and several others were shot at? I think the shooter was against Republicans and Scalise is a gun rights supporter.

I'm guessing part of the reason Mickey was permanently banned for this post is that it could cause the board some kind of legal trouble, in which case maybe also consider deleting the post itself!

I think it's missing several required aspects to make it a true threat. Legally they should be fine.
