The bottom line for me is that I have a right to self defense. My ninja training skills just won't cut it if I'm being threatened with say... a crossbow. If I chose to own one though a gun would work great.
I like having that option. Bad guys are gonna find a way to do crazy shit one way or the other. (Just look at the Norwegian who shot 85 people at that camp a few years ago). I think it is a fantasy to believe that banning guns will solve the problem. It's not going to stop the batshit insane nor the criminal minded.

i'll post it again as i've posted before.
the title of this thread not withstanding, nobody is talking about taking away all guns.
(1) i'm talking about is making it harder to obtain them and carry around with you. and (2) it should require greater responsibility to own one and keep it in your house.
short of those two things, you're a criminal and should be treated as such, just like drunk driving. of course people still do it, but you're committing a crime as soon as you do it (and you're very aware of it).

I was addressing the title of the thread more than any one individual posting here. I agree with more stringent background checks.

From snopes.com
Quote:
Australian citizens do not (and never did) have a constitutional right to own firearms; even before the 1997 buyback program, handgun ownership in Australia was restricted to certain groups, such as those needing weapons for occupational reasons, members of approved sporting clubs, hunters, and collectors.
Agreed, these are two key reasons why I think the comparison fails: Australia lacks the legal and historical ties to gun ownership that exist in the United States and we always had far, far fewer guns in circulation (even illegally) before the buyback. Gun regulation has unarguably resulted in a marked reduction in mass shootings in Australia, but I think it's folly to think instituting similar schemes in other jurisdictions would result in the same outcome. I presume Australia's geographic isolation plays a role in why gun regulation has been so effective here too.
Who needs a gun when you can train a drop bear to attack your enemies?
do that w/ shitty cartel weed and i'll sing a different tune.
umm, fake blood alert.
sorry i couldn't produce a gif of an actual occurrence of someone nearly pistol whipping someone else to death. not to mention, if electro is going to be silly, then i'm going to bring in ray liotta.

For those disappointed about the recent Senate vote, you should take some solace in that the mere proposal has been effective. For the past 4-ish months ammunition has been hard to find, and when it can be found it is quite expensive. For instance, the only .45 ACP (no 9mm to speak of) ammunition available on my go to site are some mid-grade hollowpoints for about $1.50 per round. It would seem that shooting sprees are a domain restricted to the well off these days, which if I'm not mistaken are not a demographic known for losing it and engaging in wanton destruction.
