Was the shooter ever committed? Sounds like he's a walking justification for mental health institutions. Sucks that his dad is going to jail, but he probably should have 5150'd his son some number of years ago.

It'd be nice to think you could keep this kid locked up forever just because he seems crazy, but on medication, he was probably very capable of living a normal life. It's very hard in mental health to keep people on their meds. Now, on the other hand, requiring more than just his dad's "word" about how he'd keep the guns away from his son would be much more effective. Especially since this man had his ability to purchase guns in the future revoked.
